Island Rugby League Team Holds off Saddleworth in Thrilling Match

Island Rugby League Club maintained their lead throughout the game against Saddleworth Rangers, ultimately securing a 28-24 victory in an intense match-up. The Island team started strong, with Josh McBain scoring a try just two minutes into the game, converted by Finn-Dutton-Rosconie to give them an early 6-0 lead. Carl McBain extended their lead to 12-0 with another try and conversion by Dutton-Rosconie.

Saddleworth Rangers managed to put six points on the board before halftime, but Island remained in control with Ryan Wilson scoring a try and Dutton-Rosconie adding the conversion to make it 18-6. The visitors fought back, narrowing the gap to 22-18 midway through the second half.

However, Island responded with a try from Adam Ford, converted by Dutton-Rosconie, to extend their lead to 28-18. Saddleworth Rangers managed to score another try, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Island’s lead, with the final score ending at 28-24 in favor of the home team.

In other rugby league action, Millom suffered a narrow 22-20 defeat at home to Thornhill Rangers, while Dalton secured a 30-16 victory against Westhoughton Lions. Hindpool also emerged victorious with a 22-16 win over Mayfield “A”.

Unfortunately, Ulverston’s game at Burtonwood and Roose Pioneers’ game at Wigan Springview were called off due to unfit pitch conditions. In the Cumberland league, Askam fell to a 32-10 defeat against Maryport at Fallowfield Park.
