Exciting Round Three Action in the NRRRL: Red-Hot Performances, Huge Statements, and Nailbiting Draws
In a thrilling round three of the NRRRL, one team put in a red-hot performance, another made a huge statement of progress, and there was a nail-biting draw in wet and windy conditions.
The Byron Bay Red Devils put on a show-stopping performance as they hammered the Lower Clarence Magpies 56-16. Wingers Abele Atunaisa and Baharov both scored hat-tricks, while hooker Jesse Beauchamp continued his try-scoring form with two more. The Red Devils ran in a total of 11 tries to secure a dominant victory.
Meanwhile, the Murwillumbah Mustangs got off to a fast start and finished strong to defeat Evans Head 22-8 in a rain-soaked clash. The Mustangs capitalized on an early error from Evans Head to score within the first minute and never looked back, sealing the win with a strong defensive performance.
In a dramatic draw, Mullumbimby and Marist Brothers couldn’t be separated as they ended the game with a 12-all scoreline. Both teams showed resilience in tough conditions, with neither side able to break the deadlock after a late try from Marist Brothers tied the game.
Lastly, Casino showed plenty of grit and flair as they came from behind to defeat Tweed Coast 20-14. Young five-eighth Waylon Caldwell once again showcased his magic with a crucial intercept try, helping the Cougars break a five-year hoodoo against the Raiders.
Overall, round three of the NRRRL provided plenty of excitement and standout performances, setting the stage for an action-packed season ahead.
