Lehigh Women’s Rowing Team Sets High Expectations After Strong Spring Opener
The Lehigh women’s rowing team is gearing up for a successful season after an impressive performance in their spring opener. Hosting Loyola (Md.), Iona University, and Fairfield University at Lake Nockamixon, the Mountain Hawks secured six wins out of seven races, with a second-place finish in the one race they didn’t win.
Junior captain Catherine Hilow expressed the team’s goal of winning a medal at Patriot Leagues, emphasizing the importance of putting in a complete effort in every aspect of their training and racing. With a large walk-on group joining the team, there is a new energy and drive that Hilow believes will pay off during competitions.
First-year rower Meghan Hastings highlighted the team’s intense winter training regimen, which has set them on a path for growth and success throughout the season. The team has been focused on transitioning from indoor workouts to on-the-water training since February, with a clear goal of improving upon last year’s eighth-place finish in the Patriot League Championship.
Sophomore coxswain Ava Albano has set ambitious goals for the team, aiming for every boat to make it to the finals of the Patriot League Championship. The team’s motto, “Fly Hawks,” serves as a unifying force and a reminder of their collective determination to succeed.
Looking ahead, the team is eagerly anticipating their upcoming meet against Bucknell, a strong competitor in the Patriot League. With a focus on continuous improvement and a strong team mindset, the Lehigh women’s rowing team is poised for a successful season ahead. Their next challenge will be the Knecht Cup in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, on April 13-14.
