Jacob Wassermann secures Paralympic position in adaptive rowing

Humboldt’s Jacob Wassermann has made waves in the world of adaptive rowing, securing a critical spot for Canada in the PR1 Men’s singles rowing competition at the 2024 Paris Paralympics. Despite being a relative newcomer to competitive rowing on a national level, Wassermann’s silver medal finish at the Continental Qualification Regata in Rio de Janeiro has solidified his position as a rising star in the sport.

Training in the icy climes of Saskatoon presented challenges for Wassermann, making his performance in Rio even more impressive. With limited on-water training options, Wassermann’s success is a testament to his talent and dedication to the sport. His journey to Rio was a memorable experience, with warm weather and welcoming locals providing the perfect setting for him to fine-tune his skills.

With his silver medal finish in Rio, Wassermann has earned a spot in the PR1 men’s singles event at the Paris Paralympics. While the final team roster has yet to be announced, Wassermann’s outstanding performance has put him in a strong position to represent Canada on the world stage.

As Wassermann sets his sights on Paris, he acknowledges the tough competition he will face, including a veteran Mexican rower who took home the gold in Rio. However, with his athletic gifts, determination, and relentless work ethic, Wassermann is determined to give his all in pursuit of Olympic Gold.

From his days as a goaltender for the Humboldt Broncos to his success in adaptive water skiing and now rowing, Wassermann’s journey is one of resilience and determination. As he prepares for the Paralympics in Paris, all eyes will be on Wassermann as he aims to make his mark on the world stage.
