Texas Rowing Shines at Longhorn Invite
AUSTIN, Texas – The No. 2 Texas Rowing team put on a show for their home crowd at the Longhorn Invite, securing three impressive victories against some of the top programs in the nation. Facing off against defending national champion Stanford, No. 12 Virginia, and No. 14 Ohio State, the Longhorns came out on top in the First Eight, Second Eight, and Third Eight races.
Head coach Dave O’Neill expressed his gratitude for the electric atmosphere at the event, stating, “It felt like a championship regatta, and I’m glad we were able to pull it off.” Despite challenging crosswinds on the course, Texas adapted to the conditions and delivered strong performances in each race.
In the First Eight race, Texas edged out Stanford with a time of 6:00.969, showcasing their determination and skill. O’Neill praised the efforts of Lanie Nitsch, Anna Jensen, and Etta Carpender for their leadership and performance in the race.
The Longhorns continued their winning streak in the Second Eight race, dominating the competition with a time of 6:13.247. O’Neill commended stroke Sue Holderness for her leadership and the team’s overall speed and performance.
Although Texas faced tough competition in the I Four race, finishing as runners-up to Stanford, O’Neill remained optimistic about the team’s growth and learning opportunities from the race.
With the Big 12 Rowing Championship on the horizon, Texas is gearing up for another exciting competition in Sarasota, Fla. The Longhorns are looking to build on their success at the Longhorn Invite and continue their winning streak as they head into the championship season.
