Washington College Women’s Rowing Team Wins Overall Team Points Trophy at Battle at Brigantine Sprints
The Washington College Women’s Rowing Team showcased their strength and determination as they competed at the Battle at Brigantine Sprints on Saturday, March 30, in Brigantine, N.J. Despite facing challenging conditions, the team managed to secure the Overall Team Points Trophy by combining efforts with the Men’s Team.
Due to high winds, the original race schedule was altered, with only one race taking place early Saturday morning. The Women’s 2nd Varsity Eights kicked off the morning with a solid performance, finishing in third place behind Stockton University and Thomas Jefferson University (DII). The highlight of the day came during the 1st Varsity Eight race, where the Shorewomen put on a thrilling display of skill and determination. In a neck-and-neck battle with Stockton and Thomas Jefferson, Washington College surged ahead to claim second place in a photo-finish.
Head Coach Kari Hughes commended her team for their resilience and adaptability in the face of changing conditions. The athletes’ ability to adjust and focus on their best performance was evident throughout the race. The 2nd Varsity handled rough water conditions with ease, while the 1st Varsity displayed tenacity and grit in their come-from-behind charge.
Looking ahead, the team is set to compete at the WPI Invitational in Worcester, Mass. on April 12-13. With their recent success at the Battle at Brigantine Sprints, the Washington College Women’s Rowing Team is poised to continue their impressive performance and make their mark in the upcoming competitions.
