Texas Rowing Set to Compete at San Diego Crew Classic
The Texas Rowing team is gearing up for an exciting start to their season as they head west to compete in the prestigious San Diego Crew Classic on April 6-7. The Longhorns will be racing against top competition in the Collegiate Varsity Jessop-Whittier Cup, including powerhouse teams like Washington and California.
Last year, Texas dominated the competition at the San Diego Crew Classic, winning in each event they participated in. This year, they are looking to continue their success with a strong lineup that includes returning stars like Anna Jensen and Etta Carpender.
Jensen, a two-time first-team All-American, and Carpender, a 2023 All-Big 12 Team selection, will lead the Longhorns in their quest for victory. They will be joined by other talented rowers, including Abby Dawson, Anna Garrison, and Cassandre Korvink-Kucinski, who were part of the national title-winning Four last year.
In addition to their strong roster, Texas also received preseason accolades with Jensen and Lanie Nitsch being named to the College Rowing Coaches Association Athletes to Watch list. Nitsch, a three-time Big 12 Champion, has represented Team USA at the World Rowing Under 23 Championships, showcasing her talent on the international stage.
As the Longhorns prepare to compete in the San Diego Crew Classic, they are ranked No. 4 in the Pocock CRCA Coaches Poll, behind defending national champion Stanford. With their championship pedigree and history of success, Texas is poised to make a strong statement in the upcoming regatta and continue their dominance in the Big 12 Conference. Stay tuned for more updates on their performance at the San Diego Crew Classic.
