Indian Rowers Shine in Asia Cup and Olympic Qualification Competition in Chungju, South Korea: Pune’s Salman Khan and Nitin Deol Win Gold
In a stunning display of skill and determination, the Indian rowing contingent made their mark at the Olympic Qualification competition in Chungju, South Korea, on Saturday. Salman Khan and Nitin Deol clinched the gold medal in the Asia Cup double scull event, while Balraj Panwar and the lightweight double sculling duo of Ujjwal Kumar and Arvind Singh advanced to their respective finals.
Khan and Deol put on a stellar performance, clocking an impressive time of 6 minutes 35.73 seconds in the final of the Asia Cup competition. The duo’s victory was a testament to their hard work and dedication to the sport.
Rowing Federation of India president Rajlaxmi Singh Deo expressed her pride in the team’s performance, stating, “We only fielded our reserve players in the Asia Cup. From next time we will give full entry.”
Panwar also showcased his talent, executing his race strategy flawlessly to secure a spot in the medal match. Despite a strong challenge from Uzbekistan’s Shakhboz Kholnurzaev, Panwar finished just behind him in the semifinal, earning a chance to compete for a medal on Sunday.
In the lightweight double scull event, Arvind and Ujjwal dominated their semifinal, finishing ahead of their competitors and securing a spot in the medal match. The duo’s impressive performance puts them in contention for a ticket to the Paris Games.
