BROMSGROVE Rower Lauren Rowles Wins Gold at European Rowing Championships and Dedicates Victory to Newborn Son Noah
BROMSGROVE rower Lauren Rowles has added another gold medal to her collection, this time at the European Rowing Championships in Hungary. Rowles, alongside her partner Gregg Stevenson, dominated the competition in the PR2 mixed double sculls event, showcasing their skill and determination in challenging conditions.
What makes this victory even more special is Rowles dedicating her win to her five-week-old son, Noah. The 26-year-old athlete left her newborn and wife Jude Hamer, also a Paralympian, to compete at the championships, drawing inspiration from her family as she powered through the race.
Rowles expressed her emotions after the win, stating, “I was thinking about that little boy in the last 500 metres. To be away from home at five weeks old, it’s hugely emotional and I really wanted to do it for them.” Her dedication and drive have propelled her to success, and she now has her sights set on making history at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.
Teaming up with Stevenson, a former Royal Marines Commando, has proven to be a winning combination for Rowles. The duo dominated their rivals in Hungary, finishing with a commanding lead of over 13 seconds. Their partnership and determination have set them on a path to further success in the upcoming competitions.
The GB Rowing Team had a stellar weekend at the European Championships, finishing at the top of the medal table with an impressive haul of eight golds, one silver, and one bronze. Rowles and the rest of the Para Rowing Team will continue their preparations for the Paralympics at the World Cup in Poznan, Poland in June.
Stevenson is optimistic about their future prospects, stating, “This is a springboard now. We’ve worked hard over the winter, and we know what we need to do. I’m just listening to Lauren and enjoying the ride.” With their sights set on further success, Rowles and Stevenson are ready to push themselves to new heights in their pursuit of excellence.
