Old Dominion Rowing Team Set to Compete in George Washington Invitational
The Old Dominion rowing team is gearing up for an exciting weekend as they head to Washington, D.C. to compete in the George Washington Invitational. The two-day regatta will take place on the Potomac River at the Thompson Boat Center, where the Monarchs will face off against Drexel, St. Joseph’s, and West Virginia in a series of races.
On Friday, ODU will go head-to-head with Drexel in the Varsity 8+, Second Varsity 8+, and Varsity 4+ races. The lineup for the Varsity 8+ includes Lucy Brennan, Sydnee Blackburn, Sofia Bespalova, Nicole Knight, Jo Copeland, Maddie Enns, Helen Schuette, Callie Crook, and coxswain Libby Guindon. The Second Varsity 8+ and Varsity 4+ teams are equally stacked with talented rowers ready to compete.
Saturday will see the Monarchs take on St. Joseph’s and West Virginia in a similar format, with races scheduled throughout the morning and afternoon. Head Coach Brian Conley is optimistic about the team’s performance, noting that the extra week of training has helped improve their speed and performance.
Conley is looking forward to the competition as a way to gauge the team’s progress and identify areas for improvement. The George Washington Invitational will provide the Monarchs with valuable racing experience against strong opponents, giving them the opportunity to showcase their skills and continue to grow as a team.
