Navy Heavyweight Crew Set to Face Princeton in Season Opener

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy heavyweight crew program is gearing up for an exciting start to their 2024 spring schedule as they prepare to take on Princeton this Saturday morning. The No. 12 Mids will face off against the No. 2 Tigers in a five-race showdown on the Severn River, with the action kicking off at 7:10 a.m.

The highlight of the meet will be the Navy-Princeton Cup race, where both first varsity eight crews will battle it out for bragging rights. The competition will continue with races every 20 minutes, culminating in the fifth varsity eight race at 8:30 a.m.

The Navy squad, led by team captain Sam Beach, boasts a deep roster with 17 members from the Class of 2024. These talented athletes have been training hard and are ready to showcase their skills on the water.

The Navy-Princeton Cup, dating back to 1913, holds a special significance for both teams. Princeton has dominated the trophy races since 2014, but the Mids are determined to put up a strong fight and reclaim the cup this year.

In their most recent matchup in April 2023, Navy faced off against Princeton on Lake Carnegie, with the Tigers emerging victorious in the first varsity eight race. However, the Mids showed their resilience and secured a win in the fifth varsity contest.

Spectators are invited to come out and support the Navy crew team at the boathouse on the Lower Course. Directions to the venue are provided for easy access, and fans can expect an action-packed morning of thrilling races.

Don’t miss the excitement as Navy takes on Princeton in what promises to be a thrilling start to the spring season for the heavyweight crew program.
