Colgate University Men’s Rowing Team Gears Up for Spring Racing Season
The Colgate University men’s rowing team is gearing up for a competitive spring racing season after hitting the water at Lake Morraine. Despite a tough start at the Murphy Cup, where they faced off against Temple University, the Raiders are determined to make a mark in the upcoming regattas.
Ranked as the underdog team in the IRCA D1/D2 V8+ Preseason Coaches Poll, the Colgate V8+ is looking to build on their successes from last season. With a younger and smaller team this year, sophomore Luca Williams sees great potential in the group, despite the challenges they face.
After a rough start at the Murphy Cup, the team is focused on improving and building trust within the boat. The cancellation of Saturday’s races at the Knecht Cup didn’t deter the team, as they came back strong on Sunday. The V8 boat secured a spot in the final and finished fourth out of six teams, showing improvement in their times and performance.
Although victory has eluded them so far, the Raiders are determined to continue pushing themselves as they head to the SIRA Championship and the Dad Vail Regatta in the coming weeks. Assistant Coach Eric Summers is confident in the team’s potential, citing their commitment and talent as key factors for success.
With the IRA National Championship on the horizon in late May, the team remains optimistic about their chances. Despite a slower start to the season, Williams believes that with more time in the boat, the team will reach its full potential and be ready to compete at the highest level.
As the spring racing season heats up, the Colgate men’s rowing team is ready to take on the competition and show what they are capable of achieving on the water.
