Madibaz Men’s Rowing Team Ready for USSA Sprints Regatta in Western Cape
The Madibaz men’s rowing team is gearing up for a fierce competition at the upcoming USSA sprints regatta on the Misverstand Dam near Porterville in the Western Cape this weekend. The team, consisting of 12 members, is set to take on the top student rowing teams in the country in various races from sculls to eight-man crews in 1,000m sprints.
Madibaz Sport rowing manager, Melinda Goosen, expressed her excitement for the event, stating that it will be a valuable learning experience for the team. Despite their smaller numbers compared to other teams, the Madibaz are ready to challenge themselves and gain exposure against the country’s top rowers.
With limited opportunities for regular competition back home in Gqeberha, the team has been putting in the hard work to be race-ready. They have been training diligently on ergo machines at the Madibaz High Performance Complex during the week and hitting the river at Redhouse on weekends.
The ultimate goal for the team is to secure as many points as possible, as the overall winners will be determined based on their total points haul in all the men’s and women’s races across various categories. The competition is expected to be tough, with top contenders like Tuks, UCT, and UJ vying for the top spot.
The USSA sprints regatta not only provides a platform for intense competition but also serves as an opportunity for rowers to showcase their skills and potentially earn a spot in the national squad. The Madibaz team is ready to give it their all and make their mark at the prestigious event. Stay tuned for an action-packed weekend of rowing excellence at the Misverstand Dam!
