Indonesia Secures Additional Tickets to 2024 Paris Olympics Through Rowing Athlete La Memo
Indonesia has secured additional tickets to the 2024 Paris Olympics thanks to the outstanding performance of rowing athlete La Memo. Memo clinched a spot after finishing in second place at the Asian Rowing Olympic Qualification Regatta in Chungju, South Korea.
In the final match MX1, Memo clocked in at 6 minutes 59.74 seconds, just 0.28 seconds behind Kazakhstan’s Vladislav Yakovlev who claimed the top spot. “We have prepared Memo and he delivered the best time in the heats and the second-best time in the semifinals. With this result, we have secured one of the five spots for the 2024 Paris Olympics,” said Budiman Setiawan, Deputy Chairperson of the Indonesian Rowing Sports Association (PB PODSI) Executive Board.
This will be Memo’s second appearance at the Olympics, following his debut in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 where he finished 16th in the men’s single sculls event. The rowing team still has one last chance to compete for tickets to Paris at the Olympic Qualification Rowing final in Switzerland from May 19-21, 2024.
“In Switzerland, Indonesia will compete in four events – LM2x, LW2x, M2x, M4-. The opportunity is still open, and we hope to secure more spots,” added Budiman.
Prior to Memo’s qualification, several Indonesian athletes from various sports such as shooting, weightlifting, rock climbing, artistic gymnastics, surfing, and badminton have already confirmed their spots at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Other sports like athletics, swimming, canoeing, judo, and football also have the chance to increase their representation in Paris.
With Memo’s impressive performance, Indonesia’s presence at the 2024 Paris Olympics is set to be even stronger. Fans can look forward to cheering on their athletes as they compete on the world stage.
