Triumphant Weekend for Team at Skibbereen Regatta and European Coastal Rowing Championships Qualifier
The team’s prowess was on full display over the weekend as they conquered two challenging rowing events with finesse and determination. The Skibbereen Regatta on Saturday at the picturesque Inniscarra Lake in Farran Woods showcased the team’s talent, while Sunday’s European Coastal Rowing Championships Qualifier in Ringaskiddy presented a new test of their skills.
A standout performance from the Women’s Junior 16 quad, led by coxswain Kate McMahon, stole the show on Saturday. Sadbhb O’Sullivan, Fia O’Gorman, Freya Doyle, and Chloe O’Sullivan dominated their competition from Waterford, Tralee, Enniskillen, St Michaels, and Shannon, securing a resounding victory in both the preliminary rounds and finals.
Sunday brought more success, with Seán and Liam claiming second and third place in the Men’s J14 1x category. Other notable achievements included the Women’s J16 double, various individual sculling races, and the Men’s J16 double race.
Despite facing fresh challenges on Sunday, the team rose to the occasion. The Women’s J15 quad took home first place, while Rory Barry and Seán O’Gorman showcased their skills in the MJ15 single sculls. Monika Dukarska’s stellar performance in the Women’s Solo event at the European Coastal Rowing Championships Qualifier earned her a spot to represent Ireland in Gdansk, Poland.
Special recognition is due to the dedicated coaches, supporters, volunteers, and parents who made the team’s success possible. Mike Fleming’s tireless efforts in preparing the crews for competition did not go unnoticed, and the team’s achievements are a testament to their hard work and commitment.
