GB Rowing Team Shines at World Cup in Lucerne Ahead of Tokyo 2020

Tom Ford, a bronze medallist at Tokyo 2020, continues to showcase his dominance in the stroke seat of GB’s men’s eight. Alongside his teammates, Ford secured yet another gold in Szeged, Hungary, solidifying their status as world-beaters in the sport.

However, Jacob Dawson emphasizes that their success will only truly matter if they emerge victorious in the upcoming race in Paris. “It’s never going to be enough until we take the last stroke of the most important race of the summer,” Dawson stated. The team is driven by a relentless pursuit of excellence and a desire to push themselves to go faster.

On the women’s side, Ford played a crucial role in the GB women’s eight, who engaged in a fierce battle with Romania. Despite leading for the first half of the race, the British crew was ultimately overtaken by the reigning champions, settling for a silver medal.

Reflecting on the race, Rowan McKellar noted the team’s progress and hunger for more success. “We’re learning every race and moving it on,” she said. The team’s performance in Szeged added to the GB Rowing Team’s impressive medal haul, finishing at the top of the table with eight golds, one silver, and one bronze.

As the team prepares for the World Cup in Lucerne in May, the focus remains on continuous improvement and striving for excellence. With the support of the National Lottery Sports Fund, the GB Rowing Team is poised for further success on the international stage.
