Holmes Chapel Siblings Shine at World Rowing Cup in Varese, Italy
The Holmes Chapel siblings, Tom and Emily, made their mark in Varese, Italy, over the weekend as they helped Great Britain top the medal table with three medals. Former students of The Grange School in Hartford, the duo showcased their talent and determination on the international stage.
Tom secured a gold medal as part of the men’s eight, displaying dominant form throughout the weekend. His crewmates, including Leander Club colleagues and university athletes, ensured they finished more than two seconds ahead of the Netherlands in the final, with Germany taking the bronze.
Meanwhile, Emily shone in the women’s events, winning silver in the women’s eight and the women’s four. In the women’s four, Emily was part of the GBR2 boat that came second to the GBR1 boat in the heats, advancing to the A final where they repeated the one-two finish with the Netherlands in third.
Emily and her women’s eight crewmates, including Hattie Taylor and Eve Stewart, finished less than a second behind Italy to claim silver in the final. Their victory came after a comfortable win in the heats on Friday, setting them up for success in the A final.
The siblings’ success in Varese bodes well for the upcoming European Championships in Szeged, Hungary, and the Olympic Games in Paris later this summer. With their impressive performances and teamwork, Tom and Emily are proving to be formidable competitors in the world of rowing.
