Cheltenham Rower Overcomes Winter Training Challenges to Secure World Cup Gold

Cheltenham rower George Ross has overcome challenging winter training conditions to kick off his season with a bang, securing World Cup gold in the men’s pair alongside Ollie Wynne-Griffith in Varese.

Despite the disruptions caused by the difficult weather at his training base in Caversham, Ross and Wynne-Griffith managed to trust themselves and deliver a stellar performance on the water. Looking ahead to the upcoming European Championships and ultimately the Olympics, Ross emphasized the importance of maintaining confidence in their abilities.

The duo, who have been friends since their school days, are no strangers to success, having claimed silver at the World Championships in Belgrade in 2023 and now adding another gold to their collection. Their strong partnership and trust in each other have been key to their achievements on the water.

As they head to Hungary as reigning European silver medallists, Ross and Wynne-Griffith are focused on staying in their lane and executing their race plan, rather than getting caught up in what their competitors are doing. With a record-breaking performance last year and a renewed focus on the middle kilometre, the pair is determined to make their mark on the international rowing scene.

British Rowing, the governing body for the sport, supports the GB Rowing Team in their quest for success, with funding from the National Lottery Sports Fund. Fans can follow the team’s journey and learn more about the sport at https://britishrowing.org/.
