Inverness Rowing Club’s £300,000 Boathouse Development Strengthens Reputation as Top Rowing Destination
Inverness Rowing Club President Robert Gordon is leading the charge in transforming the club into one of the top rowing destinations in the country. With a new £300,000 boathouse development on the shores of the Caledonian Canal, the club is attracting attention from clubs across the country and its own members.
The new facilities, including a boathouse, welfare cabins, changing rooms, and a training room with indoor rowing machines, are seen as a major catalyst for boosting rowing in the Highlands. Gordon believes that the new facilities will help Inverness establish itself as a top rowing venue in Scotland and the UK.
The club has already seen an increase in interest from top clubs and university teams, with teams from Glasgow University, St Andrews University, and Aberdeen University utilizing the facilities for training camps. This influx of visitors is not only benefiting the club but also the local economy.
Inverness Rowing Club currently has around 100 members, including successful athletes like Alan Sinclair and Imogen Walsh. However, Gordon emphasizes that the club is not just about elite competition but also about the social aspect of the sport.
With a focus on growing the junior section and promoting rowing in the Inverness area, the club is working to break down the elitist reputation of the sport and make it accessible to all. Gordon invites everyone to give rowing a try, highlighting the physical demands and rewards of the sport.
As interest in rowing surges during Olympic years, Inverness Rowing Club is poised to capitalize on the momentum and continue to grow its reputation as a top rowing destination in the country.
