“Discover the Sport of Rowing at Nicomekl Rowing Club’s Open House”

Are you looking for a new and exciting way to stay active this spring? Have you ever considered trying rowing? Well, now is your chance to give it a go at the Nicomekl Rowing Club’s open house on Saturday, May 4th from noon to 4 p.m.

Located near Historic Stewart Farm and Totest Aleng: Indigenous Learning House in Elgin Heritage Park, the Nicomekl Rowing Club is inviting everyone to come and try rowing as part of the City of Surrey’s Spring Fest. Attendees will have the opportunity to tour the boat house, test out the club’s ERG rowing machines with the help of certified coaches, and even take a seat in a rowing scull.

Betty McDougall, the rowing club’s membership coordinator, emphasized the physical and mental benefits of rowing, noting that it offers a thorough physical challenge for all age groups and abilities. The club, which has been operating since 1996, caters to both competitive and recreational rowers, with regularly scheduled coached rows for all skill levels throughout the year.

McDougall described rowing as a social sport and a community, highlighting the diverse natural setting of the Nicomekl River where rowers can enjoy encounters with local wildlife such as seals, migratory birds, coyotes, deer, and otters.

Whether you’re a seasoned rower or a complete beginner, the Nicomekl Rowing Club’s open house is the perfect opportunity to dip your toes into the lifelong sport of rowing. So mark your calendars for May 4th and come check it out for yourself. For more information, visit the Spring Fest page on surrey.ca.
