“Discover the Sport of Rowing at Nicomekl Rowing Club’s Open House”

The Nicomekl Rowing Club is inviting everyone to come and try rowing at their open house event on Saturday, May 4th. Located in Elgin Heritage Park in Surrey, the club is offering a chance for attendees to tour the boat house, try out the ERG rowing machines with the help of certified coaches, and even take a seat in a rowing scull.

Betty McDougall, the club’s membership coordinator, highlighted the physical and mental benefits of rowing, noting that it offers a thorough physical challenge for all age groups and abilities. With significant cardio and muscle toning benefits, rowing is a lifelong sport that works the entire body.

The Nicomekl Rowing Club, in operation since 1996, caters to both competitive and recreational rowers. They offer regularly scheduled, coached rows for all skill levels throughout the year, with competitive members participating in regattas across British Columbia during the spring and summer months.

Describing rowing as a social sport and a community, McDougall emphasized the diverse natural setting of the Nicomekl River, where rowers can enjoy encounters with local wildlife such as seals, migratory birds, coyotes, deer, and otters.

Whether you’re a seasoned rower or curious about trying the sport for the first time, the open house event is a perfect opportunity to learn more about rowing and the Nicomekl Rowing Club. For more information, visit the Spring Fest page on surrey.ca and mark your calendars for a day of fun and fitness on the water.
