Havishka Perera Shines at 39th Senior/Intermediate/Junior Rowing Nationals
Havishka Perera, a 15-year-old student from British School Colombo, made headlines at the 39th Senior/Intermediate/Junior Rowing Nationals with her exceptional performance. The event, organized by the Amateur Rowing Association of Sri Lanka, took place at the Diyawannawa Rowing Centre in Battaramulla.
In the Schoolgirl Scull event, Havishka set a new record with a remarkable time of eight minutes and 39 seconds. This achievement marked the fastest time ever recorded by a schoolgirl rower in the history of our national championships.
Not stopping there, Havishka also clinched the Gold Medal in the Under-18 Girls’ Single scull event, finishing the race in eight minutes and 46 seconds. Her outstanding performances earned her the prestigious Best Rower Award at the competition.
Despite her young age, Havishka’s journey in rowing has been nothing short of remarkable. Training with the Sri Lanka Junior Rowing Pool, she has shown dedication and hard work over the past two years, leading to significant improvements in her skills.
Since 2022, Havishka has consistently medaled at national level competitions and represented Sri Lanka at the Asian Junior Rowing Championships in Thailand last year.
With over 350 athletes participating in the rowing nationals, including competitors from various sectors, Havishka’s stellar performance not only brought glory to herself and her school but also inspired young athletes across the country.
