Exceptional Talent Shines at the 39th Sri Lanka Rowing Nationals
The 39th Sri Lanka Rowing Senior/Intermediate/Junior Nationals, held at the Diyawanna Rowing Center in Batharamulla, was a showcase of exceptional talent and fierce competition. With 21 teams and over 350 athletes participating, including representatives from various sectors, the event was a true display of the country’s rowing prowess.
In the senior categories, the Sri Lanka Army emerged victorious in both the men’s and women’s divisions, showcasing their dominance on the water. The Sri Lanka Navy claimed the intermediate category, proving their skill and determination in the sport. However, it was the junior division that stole the spotlight with some remarkable performances.
Among the standout athletes was 15-year-old prodigy Havishka Perera from the British School in Colombo. Trained under the Sri Lanka Junior pool and Diyawanna Rowing Academy, Havishka’s talent shone brightly as she claimed multiple titles at the event. She secured the Best Junior Girl Rower award by setting a new Sri Lankan junior record in the School Girl Scull event, with an impressive time of 8 minutes and 39 seconds. Havishka further solidified her status as the best junior single scull rower by winning the gold medal in the Under-18 Girls Single Scull event, clocking in at 8 minutes and 46 seconds.
Havishka’s success at the national level adds to her already impressive international resume, having represented Sri Lanka at the Asian Junior Rowing Championship in Thailand. With her talent and determination, Havishka is definitely a name to watch out for in the world of rowing.
