Balraj Panwar secures India’s first Paris Olympics quota in rowing

Balraj Panwar’s remarkable performance at the 2024 World Asian and Oceanian Olympic and Paralympic Qualification Regatta in Chungju, South Korea has secured India’s first Paris Olympics quota in rowing. The 25-year-old Indian Army rower finished third in the men’s single scull event, clocking an impressive time of 7:01.27 minutes over the 2000m race.

Panwar’s achievement is even more significant considering his narrow miss for a bronze at the Asian Games in Hangzhou last year. His determination and hard work have finally paid off, as he sealed the coveted Olympics quota in a highly competitive field where only the top five make the cut.

While India failed to qualify in the men’s lightweight double sculls event, Panwar’s success ensures that the country will have a solitary entry in rowing at the upcoming Paris Olympics. His dominant performance in Chungju, where he overcame tough competition to secure the quota, is a testament to his skill and dedication to the sport.

Panwar’s journey to Paris Olympics has been nothing short of inspiring, and his achievement is a proud moment for Indian rowing. With the support of his team and coaches, he has proven that hard work and perseverance can lead to great success on the international stage.

As India prepares for the quadrennial extravaganza in July, all eyes will be on Balraj Panwar as he represents the country in rowing and aims to make his mark on the global stage. His story is a reminder of the power of determination and passion in achieving one’s dreams, and he is sure to inspire many aspiring athletes in India and beyond.
