University of Minnesota Rowing Team Shines at 2024 Big Ten Invitational Regatta in Sarasota, Fla.
The University of Minnesota rowing team showcased their talent and determination on day one of the 2024 Big Ten Invitational Regatta in Sarasota, Fla. The Golden Gophers competed in a total of 14 races across two sessions, with their first varsity eight crew stealing the show with a victory in the morning session.
In a thrilling photo finish, the Gophers’ second varsity four crew narrowly missed out on a win to the Hawkeyes by less than half a second. However, the first varsity eight boat made up for it with a dominant performance, securing a victory over rival Iowa by more than two seconds.
The afternoon session saw more intense competition as Minnesota’s third varsity eight crew battled Alabama in a neck-and-neck race, ultimately falling short by just one second. The first varsity eight boat once again impressed, finishing third behind two top-ranked programs.
A total of 18 schools, including all eight from the Big Ten Conference, participated in the regatta, competing in 48 races throughout the day at the prestigious Nathan Benderson Park.
Head Coach Alicea Strodel praised the team’s performance, highlighting the strong execution of the varsity eight and novice eight crews. Strodel noted that the team is competing at a higher level compared to the previous year.
The Minnesota lineup, led by coxswain Isabella Bejaran,13, showcased their talent and determination on day one of the 2024 Big Ten Invitational Regatta in Sarasota, Fla. The Golden Goph, featured standout performances from athletes such as Cecilie Christensen, Ella Saunders, and Josefine Freltoft.
