Adidas Unveils Inclusive Kits for Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games
In a groundbreaking move towards inclusivity in sports, adidas has announced that 86% of the apparel worn by athletes at the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games has been designed to cater to athletes with and without disabilities. The reveal of the new kits took place today, showcasing a range of adaptive training outfits that prioritize comfort and functionality for all athletes.
Over the course of two years, adidas designers and engineers collaborated with top athletes, including ParalympicsGB, Team D Paralympics, Brooklyn Nets, and wheelchair basketball teams in Germany, to create a collection that works for everyone. The result is a line of apparel that enables athletes to participate in sports without any distractions or discomfort.
Jacqueline King, Design Director at adidas, emphasized the brand’s commitment to removing barriers for athletes with disabilities. With over a billion people in the world estimated to live with a disability, adidas aims to level the playing field for all competitors and learn from the community to benefit everyone.
The collection features adaptive design principles applied to competition, podium, village, and training wear, ensuring that all athletes can find apparel that suits their specific needs. From smart seam placements to zipped ankle cuffs for ease of dressing, adidas has thoughtfully considered every detail to make the kits accessible to athletes of all abilities.
One of the highlights of the collection is the adaptive training outfit designed for athletes who use wheelchairs. Through extensive research and collaboration with wheelchair basketball players, adidas has created a pattern blueprint that optimizes comfort and coverage during training sessions. The outfit includes a shaped workout t-shirt and pant with reduced seams and soft threading to minimize irritation and maximize freedom of movement.
The adaptive training wear pieces will be available for purchase starting June 1st on adidas.com and in select retailers worldwide. The rest of the collection featuring universal design will be released on April 19th, allowing athletes to gear up for the Paris 2024 Games in style and comfort.
