51st Annual Wy-Hi Regatta Recap: Roosevelt and Carlson Take Home Titles

The Wyandotte Boat Club hosted the 51st annual Wy-Hi Regatta on the Detroit River at BASF Park in Wyandotte, and it was a day filled with thrilling competition and impressive performances. After the disappointment of the Hebda Cup being canceled due to bad weather, the rowers were eager to showcase their skills at this prestigious event.

Eight teams from various schools participated in the regatta, including teams from Dearborn Heights Crestwood, Gibraltar Carlson, Grosse Ile, Riverview, Trenton, and the host school, Wyandotte Roosevelt. The competition was fierce, with teams from outside the region, such as Sandwich Secondary School and the Detroit Boat Club, also putting on a strong showing.

In the end, it was Wyandotte Roosevelt who emerged victorious, claiming both the men’s and overall championships for the second year in a row. Carlson managed to edge out the host Bears to take home the women’s title, showcasing the depth of talent and competitiveness at the event.

The rowers put on a spectacular display of skill and determination, with Roosevelt dominating in eight of the 21 events. The atmosphere was electric, with fans cheering on their favorite teams and athletes pushing themselves to their limits on the water.

Overall, the 51st Wy-Hi Regatta was a resounding success, highlighting the passion and dedication of the rowing community in the area. Congratulations to all the teams and athletes who participated, and we look forward to seeing what the future holds for this exciting sport.
