New HorsePWR Campaign Promotes Welfare in British Racing

British racing has launched a new campaign aimed at promoting and sharing the facts surrounding welfare in the sport. HorsePWR, the new initiative, will have its own dedicated website (www.horsepwr.co.uk) where information about the sport, the lives of thoroughbreds, and the high welfare and safety standards within racing will be provided.

The website will delve into areas that racing has committed to improving, such as the lives of horses after racing, reducing risks on and off the course, and facts surrounding the use of the whip. Grand National-winning trainer Lucinda Russell expressed her support for the campaign, emphasizing the importance of providing facts, educating the public, and addressing tough questions head-on.

Robin Mounsey, BHA head of communications and member of the sport’s Horse Welfare Board, highlighted the new approach the HorsePWR campaign is taking in discussing welfare in racing. The campaign aims to be transparent, tackle areas of concern, and provide information to educate and reassure both current and potential fans of the sport.

The support for HorsePWR has been widespread across the racing industry, with the Jockey Club providing additional funding to support the initial stage of the campaign. The goal is to ensure that future generations of racing followers are not deterred by negative perceptions surrounding welfare issues in the sport.

Overall, the HorsePWR campaign is a step towards showcasing the pride that those involved in racing have for their record and standards when it comes to horse welfare. By being upfront, open, and transparent, the campaign seeks to address concerns and provide a platform for the racing community to share their pride in the sport.
