Exciting Mare Brighterdaysahead Could Be Sent Novice Chasing Next Season
Gordon Elliott has hinted that exciting mare Brighterdaysahead could be set for a novice chasing campaign next season, following her impressive Grade One victory at Aintree over the weekend.
The Cullentra House handler has always held the five-year-old in high regard, and after her success at Aintree, he is now considering a switch to fences for the talented mare.
Brighterdaysahead, a half-sister to star performers such as Mighty Potter and Caldwell Potter, was a beaten favourite at the Cheltenham Festival before bouncing back to claim Grade One glory at Aintree. This victory saw her promoted to second-favourite for next year’s Mares’ Hurdle behind Lossiemouth.
Elliott spoke of his delight at the mare’s performance, saying: “I was gutted when she got beat at Cheltenham, because I’d said how much I thought of her, but what she did yesterday, I thought she looked special. I got a big kick out of that, to be honest.”
The decision to potentially send Brighterdaysahead novice chasing will ultimately lie with owners Michael and Eddie O’Leary, but Elliott believes that the switch could be on the cards.
He also praised the efforts of Delta Work and Galvin, who finished second and fourth respectively in the Grand National, hinting that they could return to Aintree next year for another crack at the famous race.
With the summer ahead to strengthen and improve, Brighterdaysahead looks set for an exciting future over fences, and racing fans will be eagerly anticipating her next move.
