North West Secures Semi-Final Spot with 6-0 Victory at 2024 SA Hockey Under 21 IPT
North West secured their spot in the semi-finals of the 2024 SA Hockey Under 21 IPT with a dominant 6-0 victory over the KZN Raiders on the second day of group stage play at the University of Cape Town. After a hard-fought opening day win against the Northern Blues, North West came out firing on all cylinders, with Jan du Preez leading the charge with a brace, supported by goals from Chanel Genis, Teshawn de la Rey, and Arisha van Niekerk.
In another Pool A matchup, the Northern Blues overcame a tough challenge from Free State to secure a 4-1 victory. Despite falling behind early, the Northern Blues rallied back with goals from Cerian Fourie, Baylee Engelke, Danielle McCann, and Laiken Brisset.
In Pool B action, Western Province managed to edge out WP Peninsula with a lone goal from Coreen Matthee, maintaining their unbeaten record in the tournament.
With the semi-final spots still up for grabs, Thursday’s matches will be crucial for all teams. The Northern Blues will face off against the KZN Raiders in a virtual ‘quarter final’ to determine who will join North West in the final four. Meanwhile, Southern Gauteng will look to continue their winning streak as they take on Western Province in a pivotal Pool B matchup.
