National Women’s Hockey League 2024-25 Kicks Off in Ranchi, Jharkhand with Exciting Matches and Dignitaries in Attendance
The National Women’s Hockey League 2024-25 kicked off with a bang at the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh AstroTurf Hockey Stadium in Ranchi, Jharkhand. The opening ceremony was graced by Sandeep Pradhan, Director General of the Sports Authority of India, who interacted with players from all eight participating teams.
These teams, which are the top contenders in Indian women’s domestic hockey, qualified from the recently concluded 14th Hockey India Senior Women National Championship. The teams include Hockey Haryana, Hockey Maharashtra, Hockey Jharkhand (Host), Hockey Madhya Pradesh, Hockey Bengal, Hockey Mizoram, Manipur Hockey, and Hockey Association of Odisha.
Bhola Nath Singh, Secretary General of Hockey India, emphasized the significance of the league, calling it a watershed moment for Indian women’s domestic hockey. He believes that this elite competition will provide a crucial platform for top domestic players to showcase their talent and improve their skills, ultimately raising the bar for domestic hockey and nurturing future stars for the national team.
The opening day of the league saw exciting matches, with Hockey Association of Odisha dominating Hockey Haryana 4-1 and Hockey Maharashtra comfortably defeating Manipur Hockey 5-1. The remaining matches featured Hockey Madhya Pradesh against Hockey Bengal and Hockey Jharkhand against Hockey Mizoram.
Notable government officials and Hockey India representatives were present at the event, showing their support for women’s hockey in India. All matches of the National Women’s Hockey League 2024-25 will be streamed live on FanCode, allowing fans to catch all the action from the comfort of their homes.
