Bre Simon Named Head Coach of UW-Superior Women’s Hockey

Bre Simon has been named the new head coach of the University of Wisconsin-Superior women’s hockey program, marking a significant milestone for the team. The announcement came on Tuesday, April 30, as Simon, a standout player in Division III women’s hockey, takes on the role of leading the Yellowjackets.

Hailing from Elk River, Minnesota, Simon brings a wealth of experience to her new position. After a successful playing career at Hamline University, where she set records for goals, assists, and points, Simon transitioned to coaching. She spent two years at Gentry Academy, helping the team reach the Minnesota state tournament in back-to-back seasons.

Simon then moved on to Elmira College in New York, where she served as an assistant coach for two seasons. During her time at Elmira, the team made an impressive run to the national championship game in 2024, solidifying Simon’s reputation as a rising star in the coaching world.

In a statement following her appointment, Simon expressed her excitement about joining the UWS family and working with the talented group of young women on the team. She takes over from Dan Laughlin, who retired after 21 seasons at the helm.

With a fresh perspective and a winning track record, Bre Simon is poised to lead the Wisconsin-Superior women’s hockey program to new heights. Fans and players alike can look forward to an exciting era under her guidance.
