2024 IIHF Women’s World Championship Returns to the U.S. – Schedule and Key Players to Watch

The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Women’s World Championship is set to return to the United States for the first time since 2017, with Utica, New York, playing host to the prestigious tournament from April 3-14. This marks the sixth time that the U.S. has hosted the event, with previous host cities including Lake Placid, Minneapolis, Burlington, Vermont, and Plymouth, Michigan.

The tournament will feature five teams from the top-seeded Group A, including defending champions the U.S., Canada, Czechia, Switzerland, and Finland. Additionally, the top three out of five teams from the lower-seeded Group B will advance to the quarterfinals.

Last year, the U.S. emerged victorious after defeating Canada 6-3 in the gold-medal game, with Hilary Knight scoring a hat trick to secure the win. Knight, who holds career records at the world championship for points and goals, will be a key player to watch in this year’s tournament.

One rising star to keep an eye on is Taylor Heise, who has made a name for herself in U.S. hockey circles. Motivated by being cut from the Olympic team and fueled by her passion for childhood tractor pulls, Heise is set to make a significant impact at the world championship.

With an exciting lineup of games scheduled throughout the tournament, including quarterfinals, semifinals, and the highly anticipated final, fans can expect thrilling matchups and fierce competition as the world’s best female hockey players battle it out for the ultimate prize. Stay tuned for all the action and updates from the 2024 IIHF Women’s World Championship.
