Hockey India Announces 24-Member Women’s Team for FIH Pro League 2023-24: Salima Tete to Lead India in Belgium and England Legs
The Indian Women’s Hockey Team is all set to make their mark in the upcoming Belgium and England legs of the FIH Hockey Pro League 2023-24, with a strong 24-member squad announced by Hockey India on Thursday.
Leading the charge will be the dynamic midfielder Salima Tete, who was recently awarded the prestigious Balbir Singh Sr. Award for Player of The Year 2023. She will be supported by midfielder Navneet Kaur as her deputy.
The team will kick off their campaign against Argentina on May 22 in the Belgium leg, followed by matches against Belgium, Spain, Great Britain, and Germany. The England leg will commence on June 1, with the team looking to put their best foot forward and improve on their current 6th place standing in the league.
The squad boasts a mix of experienced and young players, with goalkeeping duties shared between Savita and Bichu Devi Kharibam. The defensive line-up includes Nikki Pradhan, Udita, Ishika Chaudhary, Monika, Jyoti Chhatri, and Mahima Chaudhary, while the midfield will be marshalled by players like Vaishnavi Vitthal Phalke, Neha, and Baljeet Kaur.
Speaking on her appointment as captain, Salima expressed her excitement and readiness for the new role, emphasizing the team’s strong preparation and determination to deliver good performances in the upcoming matches.
Vice-captain Navneet also shared her enthusiasm for the upcoming challenges, highlighting the team’s confidence and the high-intensity training they underwent in the camp.
