In an exciting start to the National Women’s Hockey League, Odisha and Maharashtra showcased their dominance with commanding wins against Haryana and Manipur, respectively. Odisha outclassed Haryana with a 4-1 victory, while Maharashtra secured a 5-1 win against Manipur.
The opening match saw Haryana taking an early lead in the third minute, but Odisha quickly turned the tide in their favor. Rambha Kujur’s deflected goal in the 33rd minute leveled the score, and Sonali Ekka’s brace in the 38th and 49th minutes put Odisha in the lead. Captain Dipi Monika Toppo sealed the deal with a penalty corner conversion in the dying minutes, securing a convincing 4-1 victory for Odisha.
In the second match of the day, Maharashtra took the lead through Tanushree Dinesh Kadu’s penalty corner conversion in the 14th minute. Sanika Chandrakant Mane extended their lead with two field goals in the 25th and 33rd minutes. Despite Manipur’s late surge, Maharashtra maintained their dominance with two quick goals from Sanika Chandrakant Mane in the 53rd and 56th minutes, securing a resounding 5-1 win.
