Local Hockey Enforcer Steve McLaren to be Inducted into North Bay Sports Hall of Fame
After years of hard work and dedication, local hockey hero Steve McLaren is finally getting the recognition he deserves. The North Bay Sports Hall of Fame has announced that McLaren will be inducted into the prestigious group in 2023.
McLaren’s journey to success was not an easy one. As a teenager, he had the opportunity to play for NCAA Division 1 schools, but a family crisis put his dreams on hold. Despite this setback, McLaren never gave up on his passion for hockey.
Known for his grit, determination, and outstanding work ethic, McLaren made a name for himself as an enforcer on the ice. While he may not have led his team in scoring, his contributions went far beyond statistics. He played a vital role in allowing his teammates to shine, without fear of retribution.
McLaren’s professional career spanned 12 seasons, with stints in the NHL, AHL, and IHL. In 2003-2004, after years of hard work and perseverance, McLaren finally received the call he had been waiting for. He was asked to suit up for the St. Louis Blues, fulfilling a dream he had been chasing for nine long years.
“It was an emotional roller coaster,” McLaren recalls. “I had waited nine years to get that call and was just trying to prove that I deserved to be there.”
Now, McLaren’s dedication and talent will be celebrated as he is inducted into the North Bay Sports Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony will take place on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at the Davedi Club in North Bay. Tickets for the event are available for purchase, and fans are encouraged to come out and support this local sports legend.
