Gurugram Deputy Commissioner Inspects Newly Revamped Astroturf Hockey Ground at Nehru Stadium

Gurugram Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav recently inspected the newly revamped state-of-the-art astroturf hockey ground at the Nehru Stadium in Civil Lines. The ground, which has been constructed at a cost of ₹8 crore, is set to host international tournaments, even at night, starting next month. The facility is equipped with modern amenities to provide a conducive environment for players to practice and compete.

The astroturf ground, measuring 91.40 metres long and 55 metres wide, has been raised by almost two-and-a-half feet to prevent waterlogging during the monsoon. The field features six sprinklers covering a distance of 45 to 50 metres, ensuring proper maintenance of the turf. Additionally, floodlights have been installed as per national standards to facilitate night tournaments.

District officials expressed their excitement about the new facility, highlighting the potential increase in participation and competition in the district. DC Yadav emphasized the importance of hosting tournaments to encourage more people to take up the sport and showcase the upgraded infrastructure. The sports department has been directed to prepare a sports plan for the upcoming years to further enhance the facilities and support available to players.

The new turf has already garnered positive feedback from players, with many expressing their eagerness to utilize the improved training ground. Sandeep Singh, a 16-year-old hockey player, emphasized the necessity of the new facility for enhancing the overall experience of the sport. With expectations of attracting more players and organizing various tournaments, the revamped astroturf hockey ground at Nehru Stadium is set to become a hub for hockey enthusiasts in Gurugram.
