Webster Family Hockey Legacy Continues: McKade Webster Looks to Tie Sister’s National Title Score at Frozen Four
The Webster family is no stranger to success on the ice, with hockey running deep in their blood. Currently, the national titles score stands at Makenna 2, McKade 1, but McKade Webster has the chance to tie the score this weekend at the Frozen Four in St. Paul, Minn.
McKade, a senior captain for Denver, is looking to follow in the footsteps of his younger sister Makenna, who recently helped Ohio State capture the women’s crown. The siblings have always had a competitive spirit, with McKade inspiring Makenna to switch from figure skating to hockey, and Makenna once giving McKade a black eye in a friendly basement game.
The Webster family will be out in full force at the Xcel Energy Center, with about 30 family members and friends showing up to support McKade in his last go-around with the Pioneers. Denver will face off against Boston University in the semifinal game, with the winner advancing to the title game on Saturday.
For the Webster parents, Dave and Sunny, watching their children succeed on the ice has been a joyous experience. They have been there every step of the way, splitting travel duties and supporting their kids at every game.
Both McKade and Makenna have had impressive hockey careers, with Makenna winning a title with Wisconsin before transferring to Ohio State, and McKade being drafted by the Tampa Bay Lightning and helping Denver to their ninth national title.
As McKade and the Pioneers aim to make history by becoming the first men’s college hockey program to win 10 national titles, Makenna will be in the stands wearing his Denver jersey for good luck. The sibling rivalry continues to drive them both to success on the ice, with Makenna already planning her next move to stay ahead in the national-titles race.
