Chippewa Falls/Menomonie Girls Hockey Team Members Help Wisconsin Selects Win National Championship
Three members of the Chippewa Falls/Menomonie girls hockey team made their mark on the national stage as they helped the Wisconsin Selects secure a Tier II 2A USA Hockey National Championship earlier this month. Addisyn Buesgen, Rhylee Buesgen, and Ashley Slupe, under the guidance of head coach Emily Bauer, played a crucial role in the Selects’ journey to victory in East Lansing, Mich.
The 19U champions clinched the title with a resounding 3-0 win over the East Coast Wizards, with Addisyn Buesgen, a junior at Chi-Hi, contributing a goal in the championship match. Ashley Slupe, a junior at Menomonie, and Rhylee Buesgen, a sophomore at Chi-Hi, also played pivotal roles in the team’s success. The team also featured Eau Claire Area’s Addison Gruhlke, a junior from Fall Creek.
Throughout the season, Addisyn Buesgen tallied an impressive 22 goals and 16 assists, while Rhylee Buesgen and Ashley Slupe also made significant contributions to the team’s success. The Sabers, with a combined Chippewa Falls/Menomonie roster, finished the season with a 13-12-1 record and advanced to the sectional semifinals under the leadership of coach Katelyn Dougherty.
The achievement of these talented athletes not only brings pride to their respective schools but also showcases the depth of talent in the Chippewa Valley region. Their dedication, skill, and teamwork were instrumental in securing the national championship, highlighting the bright future of girls’ hockey in the area.
