Utah Gymnastics Team Overcomes Slow Start to Advance to Nationals

The #5 Utah gymnastics team faced a major scare at the regionals last week, but ultimately came through with strong performances to secure their spot in the national championships for the 48th consecutive time. The Red Rocks, who haven’t won a national championship since 1995, had a slow start in Gainesville that left the team feeling stunned and under pressure.

Senior Grace McCallum admitted that halfway through the competition, she wasn’t sure if they would make it through, feeling the weight of the pressure to perform perfectly. However, the team rallied together and delivered on the floor and vault to secure their spot in the nationals.

Head coach Carly Dockendorf praised her team’s resilience and heart, emphasizing that they never gave up and fought until the very end. Now, Utah is one of the final eight teams with a chance to win the national championship, facing tough competition from #1 Oklahoma, #4 Florida, and #8 Alabama in the upcoming sessions.
