Utah Gymnastics Dominates Regional Semifinal, Advances to Finals
In a display of precision and skill, the Utah gymnastics team delivered a commanding performance in their regional semifinal, securing a spot in the finals with ease. The Red Rocks entered the competition with the motto “top two and through,” and they certainly lived up to it.
With a total team score of 197.825, Utah outshined their competitors, finishing more than 0.3 points ahead of second-place Michigan State. Led by standout performances from Abby Paulson on the balance beam, Jaylene Gilstrap on the floor exercise, and Amelie Morgan on the uneven bars, the Red Rocks left no doubt that they were the best team on the floor.
Despite a slow start on the vault, Utah quickly turned things around in the second rotation, showcasing their elite potential on the bars. Every gymnast in the lineup scored at least a 9.90, with career-high performances from Morgan, Alani Sabado, and others propelling the team to a dominant victory.
While the Red Rocks excelled on the bars and beam, there were areas for improvement on the floor and vault. Coach Carly Dockendorf acknowledged the need to elevate their performance in these events for the upcoming finals, recognizing that the competition will only get tougher from here.
Overall, Utah’s performance in the regional semifinal was a testament to their talent and determination. As they look ahead to the finals, the Red Rocks have set the bar high for themselves and are poised to continue their quest for a 48th consecutive trip to nationals. With room for growth and improvement, Utah is primed to deliver even more impressive performances in the days to come.
