Northeastern Club Gymnastics Team Prepares for Nationals in Albuquerque
Northeastern’s club gymnastics team is gearing up for the National Association of Intercollegiate Gymnastics Clubs Nationals in Albuquerque, New Mexico from April 10 to 13 after a historic win at regionals. The team, coming off a seventh place finish out of 39 teams at last year’s nationals, is looking to build on its success and make a statement on the national stage.
Preparation for nationals is a year-long process, with junior meet manager Rachel Spezzaferro emphasizing the dedication and hard work put in by all team members. Junior president Hailey Koppelman ensures smooth operations within the club, organizing travel arrangements and fostering team unity. Fifth-year Elena Wollman organized a team bonding event to strengthen relationships and enhance performance.
The team’s success is not only attributed to physical training, but also to behind-the-scenes efforts to secure funding for the trip. With flights costing nearly $700 per ticket, the team relies on fundraising events and partnerships with local businesses to cover expenses. Head coach Peter Gobiel plays a crucial role in the team’s success, providing support and financial contributions.
As the team heads to nationals, they face new challenges with revised participation rules limiting the number of competitors in each event. Despite these obstacles, the team remains focused and determined to make a mark at the competition.
With a strong sense of camaraderie and unwavering dedication, Northeastern’s club gymnastics team is poised to make a splash at nationals and showcase their talent on a national platform. The team’s hard work and perseverance serve as a testament to their commitment to excellence in the sport.
