LSU Gymnastics Makes History with First NCAA Title
In a thrilling and historic night in Fort Worth, Texas, the LSU Tigers gymnastics team captured their first NCAA title in program history. Led by standout performances from Konnor McClain and a stellar team effort, the Tigers edged out tough competition to secure the championship.
McClain shined on the beam with a remarkable score of 9.9625, one of five LSU gymnasts who scored at least 9.95 in the final rotation. The team’s strong showing on the beam, including impressive routines from Sierra Ballard, Savannah Schoenherr, Kiya Johnson, Haleigh Bryant, and Aleah Finnegan, propelled them to a program record score and sealed their victory with a total score of 198.2250.
Despite trailing Utah and California after three rotations, LSU rallied in the final rotation to claim the top spot on the podium. The Tigers’ determination and resilience were on full display as they overcame the odds to secure the championship.
On the other hand, Florida, who was expected to have a rebuilding year, finished in fourth place with a score of 197.4375. Coach Jenny Rowland expressed pride in her team’s performance throughout the season, reflecting on the highs and lows they experienced along the way.
In the individual all-around competition, Haleigh Bryant and Cal’s eMjae Frazier tied for the top score with a 39.7125. Bryant also led the Tigers with a 9.9375 on the floor exercise, helping LSU take the lead after the first rotation.
