In a thrilling display of talent and determination, the LSU gymnastics team secured their first NCAA Championship in program history on Saturday afternoon at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. With a stellar performance on beam in the final rotation, Aleah Finnegan’s impressive score of 9.95 lifted the Tigers to victory with a total score of 198.225.
Facing tough competition from California, Utah, and Florida, LSU delivered a standout performance throughout the competition. The team’s beam team set an NCAA Championship record with a score of 49.7625, showcasing their skill and composure on the biggest stage.
In a nail-biting finish, LSU had to fend off a strong comeback from Cal to secure the crown. Sierra Ballard set the tone with a 9.95, followed by standout performances from Konnor McClain, Kiya Johnson, and Haleigh Bryant. Finnegan’s flawless routine on beam sealed the historic victory for the Tigers.
Haleigh Bryant, the 2024 NCAA All-Around Champion, further solidified her legacy as one of the greatest gymnasts in history with another impressive performance. The team set the tone early on floor exercise with five scores of 9.90 or higher, setting a new school record.
