Jessica Hutchinson: Forging Her Own Path to Gymnastics Greatness at the University of Denver

University of Denver gymnast Jessica Hutchinson is making waves in the world of collegiate gymnastics as she prepares to lead her team into the NCAA postseason. With a family history steeped in Olympic glory, Hutchinson has carved out her own path to success at DU.

Hutchinson’s decision to pursue NCAA gymnastics over competing for Bulgaria, like her mother and grandmother did, has paid off in spades. This season, she became the first DU gymnast to earn four first-team regular-season All-America honors in one season. She also achieved two perfect 10.0s on floor and tied the Denver all-around record score twice.

Emulating parts of her mother’s Olympic routine from the 1992 Barcelona Games, Hutchinson has found a way to blend her own style and personality into her performances. This season, she competed with a sense of freedom and enjoyment, leading to big moments and team success.

Heading into regionals, Hutchinson is focused on leading the Pioneers to consecutive trips to the NCAA National Championship for the first time since 2007-08. With a strong team behind her, including senior captain Rylie Mundell and freshman standout Madison Ulrich, DU is poised for success.
