Team Ireland Shines at European Gymnastics Championships 2024: McClenaghan and Cunningham Qualify for Finals
Team Ireland’s Rhys McClenaghan and Dominick Cunningham have made a strong start at the European Gymnastics Championships 2024 in Rimini, Italy. McClenaghan qualified in 2nd place with an impressive score of 15.133 on the pommel horse, while Cunningham secured his spot in the Vault finals by finishing 8th with a combined score of 14.150.
The Championships, which are being broadcast live on Eurovision Sport, saw the Irish team place 17th overall with a total score of 233.894. Adam Steele led the team with a stellar All-Around performance, scoring 80.332. Eamon Montgomery and Daniel Fox also put in solid performances on the Floor Exercise and Still Rings, respectively.
The focus now shifts to the Men’s Junior Competition, where James Hickey will be competing in subdivision 1. Coach Luke Carson praised McClenaghan and Cunningham for their strong performances, while also highlighting Steele’s exceptional performance in the All-Around.
Gymnastics Ireland Performance and Technical Manager, Sally Johnson, commended the team for their significant improvement from the previous year, moving up from 23rd to 17th place. CEO Ciaran Gallagher also congratulated the team on their achievements and praised Steele for his outstanding performance.
