Jamaica’s Young Golf Talents Shine at National Junior Trials, Set to Compete in Caribbean Junior Championship
Jamaica’s young golf talents have been unveiled for the upcoming Caribbean Junior Championship, following the conclusion of the National Junior Trials. The Jamaica Golf Association (JGA) organised the intense three-day event at the Caymanas Golf Club, providing a platform for local junior golfers aged 12 to 18 to showcase their skills.
One standout performer from the trials was Trey Williams, who finished two under par on the final day and secured an impressive 10 over par throughout the tournament to clinch the boys’ 18 and under category. Joining him on the team are Aman Dhiman, Ryan Lue, and reserve Noah Azan. In the girls’ 18 and under category, Mattea Issa demonstrated her seasoned expertise and will be joined by Kierra Williams and Anoushka Khatri on the team.
In the boys’ 15 and under category, Kemari Morris secured victory with a resilient comeback, while Davin Hogan claimed the runner-up spot. Cameron Coe made his debut for Jamaica, with Jamal Stewart earning the reserve position. Unfortunately, Jamaica will not have representation in the girls’ Under-15 category.
Shasa Redlefsen and Alessandra Coe showcased exceptional talent in the Under-13 categories, with Redlefsen representing the boys under 13 and Coe joined by Mallaina Williams in the girls’ Under-13s.
With the team finalized, Jamaica is gearing up for The Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championships (CAJGC) from July 1 to July 6 at the Caymanas Golf and Country Club. The event promises spirited competition among the region’s top junior golfers, vying for coveted titles and the country prize – The Hank James Trophy.
JGA representatives expressed confidence in the team’s dedication and unity, anticipating a proud showing at the championship. JGA president, Jodi Munn, is eager to host the event and foster talent development and regional camaraderie. The championship is sponsored by the Digicel Group, British Caribbean Insurance Company (BCIC), Fleetwood Jamaica Limited, Island Car Rentals & Tours, Wisynco, and Restaurants of Jamaica.
