President Bola Tinubu has reiterated his administration’s dedication to the development of sports in Nigeria. This assurance was given during the teeing-off of the 2024 IBB International Golf Country Club Captain’s Cup in Abuja over the weekend.
Represented by the Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan-Enoh, President Tinubu highlighted the government’s plan to utilize the National Sports Industry Policy (NSIP) to elevate sports from mere leisure and entertainment to a thriving business sector. This strategic move aims to not only boost the nation’s GDP but also provide a platform for young athletes to showcase their talents and compete globally.
Commending the IBB International Golf Country Club for their efforts in promoting national unity and talent development, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of sports as a tool for fostering unity and promoting physical and mental fitness.
Senator Enoh emphasized the government’s commitment to implementing the NSIP fully, recognizing the potential of sports as a business that can significantly contribute to the country’s economic growth. He also highlighted the need to strike a balance between sports competition and overall fitness.
The week-long celebration of the outgoing Captain of the Club, Dr. Banjo Obaleye, included various activities such as staff and caddies Kitty and Pros tournament. Captain Obaleye expressed his satisfaction with the successful event and expressed his desire to be remembered for his contributions to the club.
