Charlie Woods falls short in first attempt to qualify for US Open at Pinehurst
Charlie Woods, the 15-year-old son of golf legend Tiger Woods, took on his first challenge to qualify for the US Open and unfortunately fell short. Competing in a local qualifier event at The Legacy Golf and Tennis Club in Florida, Charlie finished with a nine-over 81, placing him in a tie for 59th out of 84 players.
With only the top five finishers and two alternates advancing to the final qualifying round for the US Open at Pinehurst, Charlie’s score was not enough to secure a spot. Despite this setback, the young golfer showed determination and potential as he navigated the course, recording one birdie, four bogeys, and three double bogeys on his scorecard.
This was Charlie’s second attempt at qualifying for a Tour event this year, having previously competed in a pre-qualifier for the Cognizant Classic where he shot an 86. The Woods duo, Tiger and Charlie, have shared the course together at the PNC Championships, finishing as runners-up in 2021.
The PNC Championships, a tournament for major champions and winners of The Players Championship, has become a special tradition for the father-son pair. While Charlie may have missed out on qualifying for the US Open this time, his experience and dedication to the sport show promise for his future in golf.
