Tiger Woods Chasing Record-Breaking Cut Streak at The Masters – Augusta National Update
Tiger Woods made a messy finish to his opening round at The Masters, as playing partner Max Homa closed in on the early lead at Augusta National. The five-time Masters champion bogeyed two of his last five holes to close with a one-over 73, leaving him eight shots behind clubhouse leader Bryson DeChambeau and with work to do to make a record-breaking 24th consecutive cut at the event.
Woods, who is making his first competitive start since February’s Genesis Invitational, impressed on the opening day but struggled in cooler conditions when play resumed early on Friday morning. Despite starting his day with a bogey, Woods managed to save par on the 15th and 16th holes before carding another bogey on the final hole after finding a greenside bunker.
The 48-year-old now faces a challenge to continue his streak of making the cut at The Masters every time he has played as a professional. His playing partner, Max Homa, briefly threatened DeChambeau’s lead with back-to-back birdies but ultimately dropped back to five under after a bogey on the last hole.
Meanwhile, other star names like Jordan Spieth and Brian Harman had shocking finishes to their opening rounds. Spieth stumbled to a seven-over 79 after a quadruple-bogey on the 15th, while Harman dropped seven shots over his final three holes in a nine-over 81.
